Laws Limiting Abortions

In Nebraska, Governor Dave Heineman has decided to pass two laws on abortion. His laws state that "anti-abortion measures that proponents say protects women and their viable fetuses but opponents charge are aimed at halting abortions altogether." The nation has decided that you cannot have an abortion after 20 weeks because the baby can feel pain. Personally, i believe the laws should not come into full effect. Every situation is different. Do you think he is justified to make decisions as drastic as this?

  1. I don't think the governor is justified to make those kinds of decisions. Personally I don't care about abortion. I'm not for or against it. But I believe that their shouldn't be laws stopping abortion altogether. It is the person's decision, and I don't think that should be taken away.

  2. I agree that there shouldn't be any laws that prohibit abortion. I believe that the government should not get involved with an issue that deals with a woman and her body. What a woman chooses to do with it is her business. No matter what the laws say, there is always going to be that arguement on whether or not it is an ethical choice. Religious views on abortion say that it is wrong. A child is "God's gift," and that us abiding the laws of nature is immoral.

However, no one really looks at the big picture. At this age, if I got pregnant, I'd honestly say that I would get an abortion. Judge me all you want, but no one really looks at the factors of having a baby. Most girls that choose to have a baby drop out of school. These girls struggle to go back to school after having said baby or even to get a G.E.D. Most don't even go back to school or even get a High School Equivalency. They immediately jump into a 9-5 job and live in poverty for several years before they are even remotely able to get out of their "struggle." I wouldn't want to bring a child into this world if I couldn't provide for it. If I have a baby, I want to be ready; with a house and a stable career. Who are you, Congress, to tell me what to do with my body? Are you going to help me raise this baby?

People need options. There was an episode on Montel where a girl was raped by her father and had his baby. The alleles were so identical, the baby was born with down syndrome. This poor woman was upset to even think that her child's father is also his grandfather and her father. Stuff like that happens.

Another situation is if a woman was raped by a stranger. Let's say she keeps the baby, yet everyday, that innocent's child face will be a constant reminder of her most traumatic event, spiraling her into a depression.

And again, I ask: Who are you, Congress, to make my life decisions?

  3. A lot of people, even some in our school and class, have been faced with the decision like abortion. It is probably a really diffuclt and scary choice to have to make. And for a male especially to try and make such a dratsic decison for every female, is beyond radical.

  5. i believe that the judge is justified. He is not saying that you cannot have an abortion but better yet stating that after 5 months thats almost a full grown baby and killing it is completely wrong. At five months, i feel that a mother needs to know what she is doing with her growing baby. If a mother is unsure at five months then she should just keep it for the extra 4 months and give it up for adoption instead of killing an innocent infant. It seems that the judge is trying to find an acceptable medium on this topic and he is justified in my eyes.

  6. the topic of abortion has been debated about time and time again, there will always be people for and against it. the idea of abortion is crazy to me but i do understand that every situation is different and believe that everyone has the right to make thier own decisions. with that being said i feel that i would have to agree with heineman, he is giving the opportunity of choice but a choice that is to be made within reasonable and unharming time.
