The Many Facets of our Personality.
In an effort to set the tone for this blog, I thought I'd begin with a rather casual thought I had while trying to fall asleep the other night. I had just finished watching " The Soup" a show on the E channel that is mainly devoted to making fun of all the idiots on television, (particularly the idiots on popular reality shows) when I began wondering how accurately the characters/people on those shows are represented. I mean, they are subject to the mercy of the editors, right? And the editors job is to create a storyline (or a conflict) AND to create recognizable character types (archetypes). So then I begin to wonder, if I were the member of a cast in a reality show, which facets of my personality would end up getting the most air time? Obviously, I'm a multi-dimensional person, but the editors of the show aren't getting paid to portray me with any depth. They'd most likely choose a role for me and only use the material that was most in sync with that role. Suddenly, I was fearful of what role would be assigned to me. Would I be the token diva? (Doubtful) The bookworm? (Possibly) The prodigal daughter (Hmmm?) So my question is this: If you were a cast member of a reality show, how would your personality determine the role you would play? In other words, do you have an aspect of your personality that is dominant over all others? What is it? Do you think the role would be flattering?

Being shy, quiet, and the person who doesn't open up easily to others doesn't make for a great (nor entertaining) reality show cast member.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a cast member of a reality show, and my personality determined a role for myself to play, it would most likely have to depend on what "kind" of reality show it is. If it was a physical reality show, then my determination and physical strength personality traits would help determine my role. If I was on a reality show, like, "The Bachelor"(who wouldn't want to be on that show?), or "Frank the Entertainer"(not so much...), then my fun and unique personality traits would determine the role that I would play(not to sound conceited).
ReplyDeleteReality shows are meant to show real life situations but in the end, they don't show what life is about. If it was truly reality, then they would show the struggle and issues that people encounter on an everyday basis. If I were part of a reality show, it would show that I am who I am. Not to be part of some little fad, but part of what life really is.
ReplyDeleteWell first it would all depend on the show that i'll be on. Yes you do have to have personality in the acting area, but you also have to play the role. So to me its not much of my personality that i'll give, it would be more of the personality that the director wants for that charter to have. I believe that I do know my own personality, but to put it in an acting role all depends on the role you play.
ReplyDeleteIf I was in a reality TV. show, my part would be the observer. I don’t really like making new friends because I am afraid I won’t have them forever. I usually just talk to people and maybe over a period of time I would make new friends. If I was put in a house with a bunch of people, I would also be the one to stay out of all the drama. I cannot stand when people start drama. Don’t worry about it if it’s not your life. I think people create drama for two reasons...one, because they don’t have a life of their own or anything better to do with their time and two, because they love the attention they get from other.
